Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Basterds1

Well that was one hell of a movie, laughs, action, violence it’s all there. The first time I watched it I wasn’t all that interested and to be fair the first 2o minutes seems a good ten minutes to long but after watching it again on DVD and really paying attention I find that I really enjoyed Tarantino’s re-imagining  – Regardless of subtitles.

The film follows a group of  tough Jewish special ops called The Basterds who are deployed behind enemy lines during an alternate World War II and set about scalping every Nazi they can find in order to provoke fear in the Nazi Third Reich before the main invasion. The Basterds cross paths with a French-Jewish girl whose family was murdered by the SS and seeks revenge on the one they call “The Jew hunter”.

Tarintino, completely ignorant of history knows how to hitch humour and violence together like no other. An Excellent performance from Brad Pitt as the Nazi Scalp crazed LT Aldo Raine and even greater from Christoph Waltz as the evil and yet strangely amusing Col. Hans Landa aka The Jew Hunter something about him gives you the feeling he enjoys what he does which is quite disturbing when you think about it, and that’s something that Quentin Tarantino does best in his films. They may be gory, they may be offensive and they may be crude but hell they’re one hell of a ride. The soundtrack was great, the spaghetti westerns certainly contributed allot this soundtrack and of course David Bowie’sCat People”was recognisable. A bit of R&B which was great in the action scenes, the rustic sound really gave the esthetic some edge.

My Score:Good
